Project Brief

Interior design project for couple Zara and Sam, focusing on inclusivity and functionality. Zara, a graphic designer with limited mobility due to a joint condition, requires the use of forearm crutches. The redesign aims to ensure accessibility, safety, functionality, and comfort while reflecting their aesthetic preferences. Key considerations include a contemporary design with clean lines, neutral palettes, and adaptable furnishings to accommodate Zara's mobility aids. Emphasis on principles of inclusive and human-centred design to create a visually appealing and functional home within a reasonable budget.

Design concept: A forest clearing

The design concept draws inspiration from the tranquillity of a forest clearing, aiming to bring the essence of serenity, natural light, and harmonious coexistence with nature into the home. Emulating the elements of a forest clearing, the design incorporates open spaces, abundant natural light, vegetation, and transitional zones. The colour palette features soft earth tones, and natural materials like reclaimed wood and stone are used. Furniture with organic shapes, indoor greenery, and subtle forest motifs contribute to the natural theme. The spatial arrangement centres around a cozy seating area with panoramic views, promoting openness and easy movement. Warm, diffused lighting fixtures mimic sunlight filtering through trees, and personal touches such as nature-inspired artwork and comfortable seating arrangements enhance the overall sense of relaxation. The design seeks to create a home environment that reflects the beauty and tranquillity of a forest clearing.
